Erie Canal Cruises

In the 1970s, Kim and Jerry Gertz started a small commercial cruising business in south Florida. After growing a successful enterprise with many vessels and thousands of trips annually, they decided to sell the business, slow down, and pursue other interests. After retiring in 1999, they moved on board their personal vessel, a 51 foot trawler, to begin a life of pleasure cruising the eastern half of the United States and the Bahamas.

In the Summer of 2002, they cruised New York State and witnessed the stunning beauty and learned more of the historical significance in the Mohawk Valley. After this discovery, they decided to come out of retirement and launch Erie Canal Cruises. Their hope was to share with others the opportunity to appreciate the marvelous Mohawk Valley and the Historic Erie Canal, so rich in heritage, history and natural beauty.

On April 9, 2011, Kim Gertz passed away suddenly after a short illness. Even though Kim is no longer with us, her brand of friendly, quality service and family fun on board lives on through the staff she trained so well. Captain Jerry and the entire staff believe the best way to honor Kim is by carrying on her traditions. Kim's vision for the business was a 2-deck Entertainment Yacht, and we delivered on her dream with our newest vessel, the Lil' Diamond III.

We invite you to join us on one of our United States Coast Guard Inspected and Certified vessels for a fun and historically fascinating cruise. Travel with us back to a time when the canal was just a vision and the barges were pulled by mules and horses. We work very hard to insure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, and to share in the wonder of this magical waterway.
