Imagine yourself in the early 1800’s traveling the Erie Canal, being raised and lowered through the locks and listening to tales spun by your captain. This experience can be yours aboard Lil’ Diamond II. Hear the history of the canal from it’s origins in Rome, NY to it’s current role today. Experience the thrill of being raised and lowered through a 20 foot lock. All this and more on our 90 minute Social Studies Cruise Program. Program features a Q & A period by the captain with correct answers earning a chance to pilot Lil’ Diamond II (under close supervision).

Add a trip to Revolutionary war hero, General Nicholas Herkimer’s’, 1760’s Georgian mansion. At the Historic Herkimer Home ( a state historic site ) your students will tour the mansion and be acquainted with the Palatine settlement of the area, the Herkimer family’s rise to prominence, the Generals business ventures, his role in the American Revolution, life in a frontier mansion and the daily uses of many period artifacts on display.
In addition to the home tour you can choose one (1) other program for your students to participate in.

CRUISE AND HERKIMER HOME $15.00 pp
LUNCH
Most school groups do a “brown bag” lunch. You and your students can have lunch under our “BIG TENT” next to Lil’ Diamonds II’s dock or in the picnic area on the beautiful grounds of the Herkimer Home. Advance reservations for use of either lunch facility are required.
All that’s required in either case is a “clean up” after you’re finished.
